witness protection
Ok, ok, so we're not really in the witness protection plan, but I have been asked a few times! After relocating from Alabama back up North to Michigan, one might wonder why I would ever leave the heat, alas, it is summer time here, so check with me say mid-January and see if my stance is the same. We left behind many friends and customers (and friendly customers...yes, I'm making references to you Sharlene, Debbie, Becky and Barbara...we miss y'all and think of you all fondly!) * a special note to Sharlene, I thought of your Mom the other day, I pictured her in Heaven with a beautiful white robe on, and she was pain free and smiling, and she had the most GLORIOUS pair of gold scissors I have even seen* that's how I will always think of her!!!
The 4th of July has come and gone, and here in Michigan, Saint Joseph, to be exact, this is truly the start of a summer full of activities every weekend, if not every day here near the beach. We are meeting literally hundreds of people every day as they browse our wares. We are having a good time, which is really what it's all about, still trying to belly laugh everyday!
We are open 7 days a week (I know, can you believe it??) Its a must during the summer here, but come winter we will be able to cut back, so I can paint in my jammies at home, while everything is under a blanket of that dreaded white stuff!
I should mention that about 50 miles away in Kalamazoo (which I have not been to yet) there is another store named "Wild Goose Chase" (I know, can you believe it?) We are not affiliated with her, nor is she with us...and while she is upset that we are here (from what I hear, yes, that is the "word on the street" aren't small towns fun?) we hope that she will come to see we are our own store and would not try to ride her coattails, if you will. We are very fond of our namesake and of course, our lovely website that I am not willing to give up, so, really, can't we all just get along?
So, we gutted our building and gave it a much needed transformation into what we like to call vintage, shabby, cottage, primitive..blah blah blah... oozing with personality on our budget! I will add some pictures, because we are truly amazed at what we did in a very short time with just a home depot card credit card and lots and lots of caffeine! Thank you to my lovely daughter Jessica for being my creative partner and coming up with some great ideas to help make 315 State Street feel like home.
So speaking of Jess, she has grown up and moved on (not out, just on!) For those who know her, know she's never moving out! She has made her business its own entity, POP FASHION BY JESSICA SHERMAN and she is doing fabulous, look for her web-site soon linked to this one..she'd love to hear from you!
So, listen, stop by for a visit, there's so much to do here, or if that's not possible, stop by on line and let us know how your doing. You know we love your comments (nice ones, more than mean ones!) suggestions are also welcome. So take care and we'll talk again soon.

Oh! The Fame!
Well, its finally happened...we're getting as famous as we pretend we are!
(Jessica says we were never pretending, and she's probably right, we've believed all along that we are far more important than an
yone knew!) You've asked (and asked) and now we are complying...we are now offering our own logo shirts for our clients, friends, family, mailman, ups delivery guy, well you get the idea...anyone and everyone... to purchase...they are so cool...I will be wearing mine everyday...well, I'm going to have more than one! When you see them, you will want more than one as well....they are available in very earthy colors, with metallic lettering, hand painted by my ever talented partner Jessica (yes, she is my daughter, but she just amazes me with her talent!)The shirts are available in sizes s..m...l... they are cap sleeved, longer style and very roomy, breezy...artsy...call it what you want..they are just plain comfy!
I know I keep promising to get to this more frequently, and maybe after this promise, I will actually do it. We have placed an ad in the "Mercantile Gatherings" magazine, check
this magazine out..(http://www.merchantilegatherings.com/) it is a great one...very classy...nice layout...nice stories...photos and even some primitive projects with patterns.. The reason I am talking on and on about this magazine is we have been receiving calls about the store and our merchandise , because of the ad, and I have been telling the callers to check out our website....well, I'm a little embarassed to say that we don't do ourselves justice with photos. This blog is really the easiest way for us to put photos on the web, and we have been way too lazy about it...so now I'm probably going to overdo it, being the over-achiever that I am! I just want evereyone to see the goods! Its worth the trip (from most anywhere) we know, we've been told!
The weather
is breaking (finally) here in Alabama and we are looking forward to those long sunny days, just thinking about relaxing by the pool makes me smile. We have so much to offer as far as spring and garden merchandise...think old, chippy paint garden gates...old barn doors...old windows with flowers painted on the glass...we've got some old wicker, and the
usual fair, all kinds of furniture, some with a fresh coat of paint, some not...always with the cupboards, and always too many tables (you know I love tables!) but there's always something new to look at, as we paint everyday, just for you! Well, we do it for us, too...we love what we do!
So listen, check out the blog, and stop back frequently, I'll try to make good on my word! Stop in and say "hey" and check us out, we love to make new friends...so we'll see ya'll real soon!

New Year, New Stuff
If you love our shop, but can't make it in, (we know we have many visitors from out-of-state) we have selling pages on this website, I have just started selling items on e-bay, check out our selling pages. Seller id# wildgoosechase06.
We are trying to keep up with supply and demand...busy painting, painting, painting keeping the store full decorating items for home and garden. As you know, we hand paint most items that are offered for sale, and most are one of a kind. We're so blessed that our customers love what we do.
See you soon.

Howdy!
Hey, notice anything different? Yes, we do have a brand spankin' new web site that suits us so much better than the old one. Things happen for a reason, although at the time that the web site crashed, I did not think so...1 week before the Christmas open house! But, we managed to find someone who understands the look we wanted and she pulled it off...if you have any suggestions or comments we'd love to hear from you.
Life as a business owner is never dull, we seem to be flying through the seasons with barely enough time to catch our breath! Fall has come and gone and
now we are neck deep in Christmas. In New York my store never did well during the month of December, my customers pretty much steered clear of me, apparently my merchandise brought out their "selfishness", where we want to buy and keep instead of buy
and give! The south seems to be different, we are having a wonderful season, with people thriving on giving "a one of a kind" gift to a family member or best girl-friend! Our Christmas open house was a complete success, and we, being the overachievers that we are, still have a nice selection of holiday themed items to give ranging from $1.00 and up. Don't forget the teachers, mailman, secret santa and stocking stuffers...we've got it all, along with some adorable handpainted ornaments still hanging on the trees.
With the new web site, we are going to attempt to offer some items for sale to our customers that aren't so local...you asked and we are trying to oblige, so check out the selling pages and let us know what you think. As always, we're just a mouse click away, we'd be glad to sell any item, so if your on a "wild goose chase" for a certain item, we may have it, and we could always ship it off to you!
And, as if we don't have enough going on, my partner and daughter, Jessica
is launching a line of hand painted clothing and accessory line, called, "POP FASHION, JESSICA SHERMAN". We have transformed a corner in the store to this neat, little, trendy, artsy and vintage clothing boutique for those of you who like the slightly off beat, edgy, art inspired clothing. We're talking about hand painted tee shirts, jean jackets, even jeans and purses with the images of Twiggy, Audrey Hepburn, Blondie, Prince, Elvis to name a few icons...its very exciting to watch Jessica get so excited about this, hopefully you'll agree with me, that this is COOL! Check out the photos and let us know what you think.
We here at Wild Goose Chase Antiques want to take this time to wish all of our customers and their families, a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year. We feel honored that you would choose items from our store to bring into your homes to use and decorate with, or to give as gifts to someone special in your lives. Thank you for allowing us to do what we do! Come see us soon!

WHEW! We did it!
Hello, All...I'm sorry that I h
aven't been real good on keeping y'all posted on all of our news.
First and foremost please let it be know that we were nominated AND awarded the City of Huntsville Beautification award...How great is that? It hasn't been easy, I'm sure if you have driven down Governor's Drive in the past 2 months you have probably witnessed myself and Jessica yanking weeds, but it has paid off...we are completely honored to be a part of the Beautification team...I believe I have done my Father-in-Law Jim Sherman proud!
Last weekend we held our first ever "Bittersweet Gathering Under the Moon" Fall open house.
This event will definitely been an annual event, we had a great turnout, and I believe all of our customers were as thrilled as we were!
I know what your thinking, FALL? Its been 100 degrees or higher for a week straight! Well, Huntsville does not care, they needed a distraction and we gave them one...After about 2 months of prep work, as you know, Jessica and I do the hand painting and hand crafting. We transformed the shop into a fall wonderland. It was fabulous for all who attended... If you missed it, or if you didn't receive a postcard in the mail, that means you are NOT on our mailing list, and you should be! Stop by the shop to sign our mailing list or feel free to e mail me at wildgoosechaseantiques@yahoo.com
I will add some photos, because we are really proud, and would like you to see how cool it was! As you know, if you are a creative person, already we are preparing for Christmas...(don't act like your surprised..it'll be here before long!) We will have some amazing one of a kind items that you will want to keep, but that will make awesome gifts for this holiday season. Our Winter open house will take place in October, I will keep you posted!
We are truly enjoying our shop, and all of our new friends.
Since expanding we now have a studio where we work on items throughout the day, in between customers. But business is booming so we have begun getting to work early to start our day creating. A customer was amazed that we were working while running the store...and a child in the shop today asked me if I liked working in a "factory"...it was terribly funny...but we do love it! We love to create! But let me tell you, our studio has no air conditioning...just a few table fans...so we really are running a sweatshop at the moment... no kids in a hut, just me and Jess working and sweating!
If you haven't been in in a while you owe it to yourself to stop by. So much has changed...not just our size (store, not us!) We have so many interesting items and our stock changes daily.. If you know me I have a hard time not bringing in an item or two every single day....usually its a whole van full! So we hope that you'll stop by for a visit...check out the website, although we really need to update it, as almost all of the items in our photos have been sold! Drop us a comment, we love hearing from you..we want to know what you think...good or bad..your input helps us to know what you guys want! As usual I've covered every spectrum possible, but I hope I've kept you entertained....have fun Cheryl

Hello All and welcome to our blog. We've wanted to have a forum to allow our customers to learn more about us here at Wild Goose Chase , but also where we can learn more about you , as well.
We are so excited to announce that by June we will have expanded into the available space next door to us and will then have twice as much room and twice as much merchandise!
Our move is allowing us room to offer classes. We are starting off with 2 four week art programs running June and July for children ages 8 and up. There are still a few available spots, so call for We are curious if any of you out there are interested in taking adult art classes, and if so, what interests you? Quilting? Painting? Watercolors? Scrapbooking? Please let us know, we would like to arrange for different instructors to come to us.
We are finding Huntsville to be a very open and welcoming community and are making so many new friends here. Our landlords, Terry and Belinda Kennedy have been working really hard on landscaping the grounds for both of our businesses, you'll have to come down and see how pretty it is outside, as well as inside. Well, this is enough for today, please let us know what your thinking, we'd love to hear from you.
